The task

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.

In many countries, theatres, orchestras and art galleries receive money from the government, while other organisations depend entirely on private donations and ticket sales.

Why do some people believe the arts deserve public funding? Do you think governments should pay for the arts, or should this money come from private sources?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

How it is marked

Task Achievement, Coherence and Cohesion, Lexical Resource, and Grammatical Range and Accuracy — the four official IELTS criteria, each with its own band and a written reason. Write at least 250 words.
