The two maps below show the centre of the town of Islip in 1990 and in 2020. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
What the chart shows
Two maps of the centre of Islip, one from 1990 and one from 2020, divided by a main road running east to west. In 1990 the area north of the road had a row of houses in the west and a school in the east, while the land south of the road was open farmland with trees. By 2020 the houses had been demolished and replaced by a large shopping centre, and the farmland to the south had been developed into a car park in the west and a public park with trees in the east. The school north-east of the road remained unchanged. Overall, the town centre became far more built-up and commercial.
How it is marked
Task Achievement, Coherence and Cohesion, Lexical Resource, and Grammatical Range and Accuracy — the four official IELTS criteria, each with its own band and a written reason. Write at least 150 words.
