The bar chart below shows the percentage of people in five countries who used the internet for four different activities in 2024. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

What the chart shows

A grouped bar chart of the percentage of people in five countries (Australia, Japan, Germany, Brazil and India) using the internet for four activities in 2024: online banking, shopping, reading news and social media. Online banking was highest in Germany (80%) and Australia (78%) and lowest in India (40%). Online shopping peaked in Australia (82%) and was lowest in India (48%). Reading news was fairly even, highest in Japan (74%) and lowest in Brazil (52%). Social media was the most popular activity in Australia (88%) and Brazil (80%) but lower in Japan (63%). Overall, the developed countries led in banking and shopping, while social media was widely used everywhere.
