The task

You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.

The diagram below shows the process by which chocolate is produced. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

What the chart shows

A process diagram with eight stages showing how chocolate is produced. First, cacao pods are harvested. Second, the beans are removed and left to ferment. Third, the beans are dried in the sun. Fourth, the dried beans are transported abroad by ship. Fifth, the beans are roasted in ovens. Sixth, the outer shells are removed. Seventh, the beans are ground into a liquid. Finally, liquid chocolate is produced. The process is linear, starting from a natural raw material and ending with a manufactured product.

How it is marked

Task Achievement, Coherence and Cohesion, Lexical Resource, and Grammatical Range and Accuracy — the four official IELTS criteria, each with its own band and a written reason. Write at least 150 words.
