The bar chart below shows how much fresh water was used each day per person by three sectors — homes, industry and agriculture — in four countries in 2019. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
What the chart shows
A grouped bar chart showing daily fresh water use per person, in litres, by three sectors (homes, industry and agriculture) in four countries in 2019. Canada: homes 330 litres, industry 1,450 litres, agriculture 620 litres. Egypt: homes 90 litres, industry 210 litres, agriculture 2,100 litres. India: homes 140 litres, industry 380 litres, agriculture 1,900 litres. Denmark: homes 180 litres, industry 520 litres, agriculture 340 litres. Overall, the four countries fall into two contrasting groups: in Egypt and India agriculture dominated, accounting for roughly nine times and five times as much water as industry respectively, whereas in Canada industry was by far the largest consumer at 1,450 litres per person, more than twice the agricultural figure. Domestic use was the smallest category in every country except Denmark, where homes used only slightly less than agriculture. Canada had the highest domestic use (330 litres) and Egypt the lowest (90 litres), while Denmark had the lowest total use of the four countries and Egypt the highest.
