The bar chart below shows the percentage of household waste that was recycled and the percentage sent to landfill in five countries in 2020. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
What the chart shows
A grouped bar chart showing, for five countries in 2020, the percentage of household waste that was recycled and the percentage sent to landfill. Germany: 67% recycled, only 1% to landfill. Sweden: 60% recycled, 4% to landfill. UK: 44% recycled, 24% to landfill. Spain: 35% recycled, 50% to landfill. Turkey: 12% recycled, 84% to landfill (the remaining share in each country is incinerated or otherwise treated, which is why the two figures need not sum to 100). Overall, there is a clear inverse relationship: countries with high recycling rates (Germany, Sweden) sent very little to landfill, while Turkey, with the lowest recycling rate, sent the most to landfill.
