You will hear a conversation at a public library, where a man is signing up for membership at the desk. First, you have some time to look at questions 1 to 5.
Now listen carefully and answer questions 1 to 5.
WOMAN: Good morning, welcome to Millbrook Library. How can I help?
MAN: Hi, I've just moved to the area and I'd like to join, please.
WOMAN: Of course, I'll take a few details. Can I start with your surname?
MAN: It's Faulkner. F-A-U-L-K-N-E-R.
WOMAN: Faulkner, lovely, with the silent L. And your address?
MAN: Twenty-nine, no sorry, I keep saying the old one, it's number twelve, Bramley Close.
WOMAN: Twelve Bramley Close. Is that Close, C-L-O-S-E, not Road?
MAN: Yes, Close. A lot of people put Road by mistake.
WOMAN: And the postcode?
MAN: It's M-K-3, 4-A-H.
Before you hear the rest of the conversation, you have some time to look at questions 6 to 10.
WOMAN: M-K-3, 4-A-H, thank you. Now, to activate the card today I need one proof of address. A driving licence is ideal, or a recent utility bill.
MAN: I didn't bring my licence, but I've got a bank statement here.
WOMAN: A bank statement is perfectly fine, that counts too. Right, membership types. There's the Standard card, which is free, and a Family card, also free, but that one lets up to four people borrow on the same account.
MAN: It's just me, so Standard is fine.
WOMAN: Standard it is. On a Standard card you can have up to twelve items out at once, books, and that includes audiobooks. I should say, if you'd been a student we allow more, but twelve for a standard adult.
MAN: Twelve, that's plenty.
WOMAN: The loan period is three weeks, and you can renew online twice unless someone's reserved the item. Do watch the dates, because overdue items are charged at twenty pence a day, it used to be ten but it went up last year.
MAN: Three weeks, twenty pence a day if I'm late. Noted.
WOMAN: And finally, I can't print the actual card until this afternoon, the machine's being serviced this morning, so your card will be ready to collect on Thursday. You can still borrow today using your details, though.
MAN: Thursday, great. Thank you so much.
WOMAN: You're very welcome. Enjoy the library.
